Diploma of English Proficiency 40634SA
The Diploma of English Proficiency is designed for overseas-born and educated adults for whom English is a second language and who wish to access business or professional employment or further training. The Diploma offers a balanced program of training in the four macro-skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing; and in language extension and cultural information related to specific professions, and a program of work placements and career counseling.
The aim of the course is to assist:
- Students who need to do further study at TAFE or university first before finding a job.
- Skilled migrants who require a high level of English to register in their profession in Australia.
- International student graduates who require IELTS 7.0 to apply for Permanent Residence
Students who successfully complete the Diploma of English Proficiency will have the language skills, cultural knowledge and personal strategies to continue their development as competent bilinguals and to pursue their career paths.
Course Outline
The course is delivered full-time (25 hours per week), face to face in classrooms over 20 weeks (plus 3 weeks break and 1 week assessment finalisation). Course intakes are weekly and classes run on Monday and Tuesday 8:30am to 7:30pm and Wednesday 8:30am to 2:00pm. The Diploma consists of 7 core units (330 hours) and 4 electives (170 hours). Assessment is continuous and competency based.

Unit 12: Research and Establish a Vocational Pathway
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for the diploma. By way of a pre-commencement counseling session a student’s English language proficiency is assessed (unless the student can provide a current language assessment from another RTO). The tool for this assessment is the ISLPR. A proficiency level of ISPLR 3 is required in all four macro-skills.
